Meet Lorraine Phillips, our Managing Director since 2006. With a deep love for horses and a passion for sharing that joy, her focus is always on the well-being of both horses and people, driving her dedication to constant improvement.
Lorraine's commitment to wellness and progress is evident in her leadership style. She provides an encouraging and positive environment for everyone, whether they're involved in pony club activities, events, or focusing on overall well-being. Lorraine's expertise in the pony club system is extensive, having been named joint NZPCA Coach of the Year in 2019 and holding Equestrian Coaches Training Programme A and H levels.
In addition to her role as NZPCA's Training & Development Lead, and background as an Analysis Programmer in the corporate world equips her with the skills to support members and the community in achieving their potential. Lorraine also actively contributes to various roles, including being the District Commissioner at Parenga Pony Club, New Zealand Pony Club B Certificate Examiner, and Equestrian Sports New Zealand Coach Educator.
Dean Phillips was a professional jockey, riding in races from the age of 12. Dean is renowned and respected for his horsemanship skills in particular training young horses. He is a New Zealand Racing Approved Employer and has trained many apprentices.
As part of our continuing commitment to provide and pass on life rewarding skills, he regularly teaches horsemanship skills – both on and off the ground. Dean often gives demonstrations with horses, including educating young horses, shoeing, and equine dentistry.
Dean can be seen at our event days helping the beginner riders in their first competition over the jumps!
He is our farrier and adviser with the health and well-being of our animals.
Explore the world of Jay Phillips, our youngest family member with an extraordinary passion for horses and an innate skill for horsemanship. Jay's love for speed and talent in bareback jumping developed during his upbringing, where he showcased his abilities on ponies and horses of all sizes.
Teaming up with his wife, Alannah Jackson, they have founded Bella View Breakers, a well-known training stable based in the front half of Phillips Equine. Following in his father's footsteps, Jay takes the lead in riding the "breakers" and offers comprehensive education to young horses, covering breaking in, pretraining, and schooling sport horses. Their expertise is highly sought after, especially in working with racehorses for various trainers in Cambridge.
Alongside Jay, Alannah is an avid competitor in Show Jumping, specialising in producing and competing with horses in the Show Jumping arena. Together, they bring a blend of skill, passion, and dedication to the world of equestrianism.
Ellé Phillips and her fiancé Clayton Chipperfield have partnered to create Hirapur Farms, an education and pre-training venture that complements Phillips Equine.
Now based in Mornington in Melbourne, Australia, gaining valuable experience to enhance their skills and knowledge. Their plan is to bring back a wealth of expertise to their home base.
They've dedicated their lives to horses, gaining expertise in all aspects of Horse Management and Riding. Ellé has a strong passion for Show Jumping Competition and excels in training and developing a team of horses. Ellé's achievements include notable wins and placings, Pony of Year, Young Rider, Amateur rider and horse Age series. Her journey of producing horses for national-level competitions has been rewarding. Additionally, she possesses a natural talent for selling horses and building successful teams, enjoying seeing horses thrive with new owners.
